How to watch football legally in the UK

A practical guide to broadcasters, subscriptions and the details worth checking before kick-off.

Start with the match, not the subscription. UK football rights are split across broadcasters, and the service you need depends on the fixture. This guide covers personal viewing in the United Kingdom.

Which service covers what?

These are examples of direct UK subscription options, not offers sold by this website. Prices were checked on 6 October 2026. Promotions, eligibility and billing terms can change; confirm the provider’s current terms before paying.

01

Sky Sports via NOW

£34.99/ month

For Premier League matches allocated to Sky Sports. A NOW Sports membership is an online route to those channels; existing Sky customers should check their current package first.

Alternative
Sports Day membership: £14.99 for 24 hours.
Trial & renewal
No free Sports Month trial. The standard monthly membership renews until cancelled; promotional minimum terms can differ.
What it does not cover
TNT Sports matches, Prime Video’s selected Champions League match, or Saturday 15:00 Premier League games. Boost upgrades cost extra.
02

TNT Sports via HBO Max

£30.99/ month

For TNT’s Premier League selections and extensive Champions League coverage, plus the Europa League and Conference League. Choose a package that explicitly includes TNT Sports.

Alternative
The Saver plan is £25.99 per month for 12 months: £311.88 across the commitment. It is not the same as the standard monthly option.
Trial & renewal
A free sports trial is not assumed. Check renewal and cancellation terms for the exact package and billing provider.
What it does not cover
Sky’s Premier League matches or Prime Video’s exclusive Tuesday Champions League selection. An entertainment-only HBO Max plan is not a sports subscription.
03

Amazon Prime Video

£8.99/ month*

Prime includes the selected Tuesday Champions League match. In this edition, Atlético Madrid v Manchester United is scheduled for 13 October at 20:00 BST.

Price basis
*The standard Amazon Prime monthly membership, not a claim about the cheapest possible plan or a separate sports add-on.
Trial & renewal
Eligible new customers can receive a 30-day trial. It becomes a paid £8.99 monthly subscription unless cancelled. Eligibility and terms apply.
What it does not cover
All Champions League games, Premier League coverage or TNT Sports add-ons simply because you have Prime.

Price references: NOW — “All About NOW Sports Membership” and “NOW Sports”; HBO Max Help — “TNT Sports on HBO Max”; Amazon UK — “Amazon Prime”. Provider links are intentionally not included.

Choose a package in three steps

  1. Match the fixture to its UK broadcaster. A league name on a package does not mean every match is included. Channel numbers and programme listings may be finalised separately.
  2. Check what you already pay for. TV or mobile bundles can include sports access. Avoid buying the same coverage twice; some bundles need an account activation step.
  3. Read the checkout details. Check the total commitment, automatic renewal, cancellation deadline, supported devices, simultaneous streams and any picture-quality upgrade. Open the provider’s official app or website yourself.

Why Saturday 3pm is different

The UK’s Saturday afternoon restriction means Premier League matches scheduled at 15:00 are not available as live domestic broadcasts. The blocked period is normally 14:45–17:15. A paid sports package does not override it.

For this edition, the four Premier League fixtures at 15:00 on 10 October are marked “Not live in the UK”. An overseas channel listing is not a UK viewing entitlement. Consider licensed highlights or radio coverage instead.

Highlights are not live matches

BBC Sport provides Premier League highlights and is listed by UEFA for Champions League highlights. These are edited programmes after the action, not a substitute for a live match subscription. Check programme availability separately.

Check your TV Licence

TV Licensing says you need to be covered by a TV Licence to watch football live on any TV channel or streaming service, and to use BBC iPlayer. A sports subscription is separate from the TV Licence. This guide describes personal viewing; pubs and other commercial premises need to check commercial broadcast permissions separately.
